Recently, the Jiayuguan standalone energy storage project, invested in and constructed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), successfully completed commissioning and achieved grid connection. As the core supplier of the energy storage system, Sermatec provided its self-developed high-performance lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery energy storage systems, delivering a solution characterized by high safety, high efficiency, and long service life. This has enabled the project’s smooth commissioning and provided critical technical support for grid peak regulation, renewable energy integration, and the construction of a new-type power system in Northwest China.

The project is located at the western end of Jiayuguan City, with a total investment of approximately RMB 1.2 billion and a land area of about 162 mu (approximately 10.8 hectares). With a total scale of 500MW/1000MWh, the system can store up to 1 GWh of electricity per cycle and charge or discharge 500MW per hour. It is connected to the grid via a 330kV transmission line to the Suotong 1GW PV collection substation in the Jiayuguan Jiabei PV Industrial Park, enabling flexible interaction and efficient integration with the power grid.

The project adopts an innovative technical route combining supercapacitors with large-scale energy storage. The supercapacitor units feature millisecond-level response times, over 100,000 charge–discharge cycles, and a wide operating temperature range from –40°C to 60°C. This hybrid configuration effectively smooths renewable power fluctuations and significantly enhances grid peak-shaving and frequency regulation performance.

As a “14th Five-Year Plan” new-type energy storage pilot and demonstration project in Gansu Province, the Jiayuguan standalone energy storage power station will substantially improve power supply reliability and grid regulation capability, while markedly enhancing the quality of renewable energy grid integration. Sermatec’s self-developed battery energy storage system plays a central role as the main storage unit, distinguished by excellent cycling performance, robust system safety design, and efficient intelligent thermal management. Working in coordination with the energy management platform, the system enables large-scale energy storage and precise dispatch, significantly improving overall plant efficiency and responsiveness.

The successful grid connection once again demonstrates Sermatec’s comprehensive strengths in large-scale energy storage system integration, equipment delivery, and technical support, and reflects the market’s strong recognition of Sermatec’s product performance and brand credibility. Once in operation, the project is expected to reduce standard coal consumption by approximately 75,000 tonnes and CO₂ emissions by about 195,000 tonnes annually, delivering substantial carbon reduction benefits. It will also strongly support the increase of renewable energy consumption in Gansu Province, providing an important benchmark and practical reference for building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient modern energy system.

Looking ahead, Sermatec will continue to deepen its focus on the energy storage sector. With safer, more cost-effective, and more intelligent energy storage solutions, the company will work closely with partners to advance the large-scale deployment of new-type energy storage and make sustained contributions to society’s green and low-carbon development.
